ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Performs a variety of skilled activities in maintaining and repairing City grounds, facilities and equipment including such activities as performing turf maintenance to include mowing, trimming, fertilizing, aerating, spraying, and repairing turf; developing and designing landscaping beds; diagnosing and treating landscape problems; performing grounds maintenance activities such as trimming, planting, pruning, and maintaining vegetation, shrub beds, and trees; applying pesticides; and recycling to include chipping and mulching.

Inspects, repairs, and maintains structures, playgrounds, fences, tables, and fountains.

Assembles materials and equipment for service requests including loading of trucks with supplies and materials.

Performs skilled work involving operation of vehicles which do not require a commercial driver's license, such as riding mowers, backhoes, tractors, and front-end loaders. Performs operational checks and simple maintenance activities; reports needed repairs.

Maintains and performs routine repair of irrigation systems, to include installing and repairing irrigation heads, valves, irrigation pipes, signal wires, timers, and pumps.

Maintains reasonable, predictable, and regular attendance during the standard
workweek.

May inventory supplies and make minor purchases as needed.

There is currently one vacancy with the Department of Ecology, Solid Waste and Financial Assistance Program, Southwest Regional Office in Lacey, Washington. In support of the agency mission, this position will supervise and manage professional staff that provides technical assistance and regulatory oversight for solid waste rule compliance, solid waste management planning, and sustainability activities within the Southwest Region in order to reduce the amount and toxicity of solid waste and ensure environmentally sound disposal. annuals and perennials. Assist Atlantic City Nursery’s Senior Gardener with growing on
and care of such crops as well as the maintenance of the nursery grounds. Duties
include potting, transplanting, weeding, grooming, and watering. Individual will interact
with park staff.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: The equivalent of one year of experience in the
propagation and maintenance of flowers, plants, shrubs, and trees at a conservatory,
greenhouse, or nursery. Required to stand, walk, or bend for extended periods of time,
lift objects that weigh 50 pounds or less and work outdoors in all types of weather.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Education and/or work experience in propagation,
botany, horticulture, as well as good customer service experience. Plant identification
skills including NW native plants and their culture care. Ability to operate small gaspowered
equipment. Work independently as well as with a team. High attention to
detail. Good listening and communication skills, and contribute to a safe work

This position will be assigned several areas of responsibility -
1.) Environmental Engineer Site Manager: Working as a senior engineer, the person in this position pursues the cleanup of assigned Model Toxics Control Act (MTCA) contaminated, cleanup sites through the implementation of applicable statutes, administrative codes, and agency guidance and policy. This includes the ability to successfully deal with confrontational situations and difficult clients. Negotiates and drafts agreed orders, consent decrees, administrative orders, and cleanup action plans which can include work to be performed and associated work schedules; e.g., remedial investigation, feasibility study, and/or other cleanup actions. Develops/evaluates workplans and scopes of work to investigate contaminated sites. Reviews and comments on technical reports and proposals submitted to the agency and conducts field investigations of site activities to ensure feasibility and compliance with Orders, Decrees, Cleanup Actions, applicable statutes, policy and guidance, and/or other agency requirements. Prepares letters, memos, technical reports, and bulletins. Recommends compliance schedules and/or formal enforcement actions necessary to expedite contaminated site cleanups. Applies state-of-the-art engineering theories and practices in planning, developing and conducting professional site assessments, field investigations and technical services at these contaminated sites. Key tasks include: drafting and negotiating consent decrees; drafting, issuing, and enforcing orders and permits; developing scopes of work describing and/or requiring actions leading to site remediation and/or source control; reviewing technical reports and proposals for completeness, feasibility, and compliance with applicable agency requirements; coordinating with federal, state, local agencies as well as special interest groups and the public. Administrative responsibilities include developing scopes of work and associated cost estimates, developing site-specific invoice and cost tracking practices and overall contract management and reporting.
2.) Engineering Support: Independently plans, directs, evaluates/reviews, and oversees engineering analyses on assigned Model Toxics Control Act (MTCA) contaminated, cleanup sites. Applies state-of-the-art theories and practices of engineering in planning, developing and conducting professional site assessments, field investigations and technical services at these contaminated sites. Provides engineering review of site documents and work to ensure conformance with applicable statutes, guidelines and policy. Reviews, evaluates and comments upon the engineering adequacy of technical proposals and reports related to remedial investigations, feasibility studies, remedial design, and corrective action at contaminated sites. Interprets and analyzes engineering data and information obtained during site checks and site assessments and investigations. Key tasks include: determining the professional completeness of reports, applying state-of-the-art engineering theories and practices to contaminated sites, determining the engineering adequacy of remedial designs and remedial systems.
3.) Provides technical and engineering review of assigned cleanup sites and for other site managers requesting assistance and provides technical assistance to consultants, industry, local authorities, the public, and agency staff regarding data interpretations and applicable laws, regulations, and guidelines for assigned contaminated sites.

4.) Provide engineering mentoring to section and agency staff.
