*Job Description:
The Community Fruit Tree Project Coordinator is responsible for coordinating the Community Fruit Tree Harvest – an effort to reduce food waste, build community, increase awareness about hunger, preserve the urban forest, and improve access to fresh fruit among low-income individuals. The Project Coordinator will coordinate all aspects of the Community Fruit Tree Harvest Project including recruiting volunteers and tree donors, procuring in-kind donations of harvesting materials, advertising, organizing and leading volunteer orientations and training, maintaining communication and relationships with tree donors, neighborhood team leaders, volunteers, food banks and meals programs. Directly supervise the work of individual volunteers and organize an end of the year celebration for volunteers; con duct program outreach and teach workshops; research opportunities for creating an advisory board, identify future funding options, measure outcomes, write quarterly reports and conduct an end of the season project evaluation with donors, recipients, and volunteers; and coordinate administrative functions for the project, maintain database, utilize mapping technology, and correspond with donors and volunteers as needed.

*Qualifications Required:
Requires one of the following:
a) Three years of demonstrated experience in IPM Horticulture OR a Bachelor’s degree in horticulture and one year of experience practicing IPM Horticulture OR any combination of education, experience and measurable performance which demonstrates the capability to perform the duties of this position;
b) One year demonstrated and successful experience coordinating volunteers, conducting community outreach, and developing educational materials and training workshops for adults; OR

DESCRIPTION:
This position is in the Campus Services/Facilities Operations department at South Seattle Community College (SSCC). It is responsible for the maintenance of campus grounds, landscapes, and arboretum, and performing various maintenance types of operations including litter control, recycling activities, sprinkler irrigation/maintenance and other duties as assigned within a grounds maintenance program. Positions in this level supervise assigned personnel in the development and maintenance of grounds, landscapes, and arboretums. Assigns, instructs and checks the work of other grounds personnel in landscape construction and grounds maintenance work. This position may manage and participate in planning large gardening and grounds maintenance programs.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Performs and supervises others in planting, transplanting, mowing, pruning fertilizing, and irrigating lawns, gardens, shrubs, and trees. Coordinates, plans and prepares special landscaping projects. Determines anticipated annual plant and seed consumption for flower beds, gardens, lawns, and shrubs. Estimates costs for plants, seeds, soil conditioners, insect sprays, fungicides, equipment, and man hours. Formulates and submits for administrative approval annual operating plans for large program of grounds maintenance and gardening. Assists in interviewing, selecting, training, and evaluating personnel; supervises lower level staff, number of gardeners, and temporary employees; gives technical gardening assistance; and evaluates work of subordinates. Submits requests for supplies, equipment and help needed and maintains adherence to safety policies and procedures. Operates power and motorized equipment such as blowers, light tractors, front-end loaders, lawn mowers, gang mowers, forklifts, lawn edger’s, chain saws, small trucks, back pack blowers, lawn vacuums, and snow blowers. Maintains pavements, parking lots and roads.

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
A current Washington State driver’s license AND one or a combination of the following: two to four (2-4) years experience in gardening, grounds maintenance, nursery, parks, or a related activity AND at least one (1) year lead or supervisory experience; OR a college degree involving major study in Agronomy, Botany, Horticulture, soils or a closely allied field.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Ability to obtain a current Washington State Department of Agriculture Public Operator Pesticide License.

SALARY: (Range 37) $2,433 to $3,150 per month.

HOURS: 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday through Friday.
