TEMPORARY ASSISTANT GARDENER
Position will involve working 16 hours/week from April through June. The days of the week and number of hours worked each day may be flexible.

SUMMARY:
The purpose of the position of Assistant Gardener is to assist the Head Gardener/Horticulturist in maintaining and improving the landscaping and grounds at Willows Lodge. This includes the maintenance and minor repair of grounds equipment, and other associated tasks to maintain a safe and attractive environment. Willows Lodge landscape maintenance rests on a foundation of sustainability, using IPM protocols and bio-rational management.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Maintain gardens by weeding and raking
Irrigate and perform basic maintenance and repairs of irrigation system
Maintain gravel pathways
Maintain hedges by shearing
Mow and edge lawns
Clean ponds seasonally
Maintain equipment, tools and garden vehicles
Remove and replace plant material
Prune trees and shrubs
Maintain hardscape by pressure washing and blowing

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
2+ years experience in horticulture, landscape maintenance or as a commercial gardener, General knowledge of NW plants.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of weight measurement, volume and distance.

REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one or two step instructions. Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.

OLYMPIC SCULPTURE PARK ASSISTANT GARDENER – TEMPORARY (APRIL – OCTOBER)

OVERVIEW: Part time seasonal position to assist in the grounds maintenance of the Olympic Sculpture Park

FLSA Status: Non-exempt

REPORTS TO: OSP Gardener

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 1. Perform daily duties associated with general park grounds keeping which include, but are not limited to:
•Weed various flower and shrub beds, using garden trowels, hand forks, round point shovels, and related hand gardening tools in accordance with landscaping guidelines.
•When needed, manually irrigate lawns, trees and other park landscaping.
•Remove debris from the fountains and beach area.
•Maintain appearance of all gravel pathways and concrete walk and patio areas.
•Clean exterior surfaces of building and landscaping as needed.
•Manually pick up litter and debris from park grounds and deposit refuse in designated collection containers.
•Walk and/or drive automated vehicle, as requested or required, in order to perform duties throughout the park grounds.
2. Complete other duties as assigned.
3. Act as park ambassador in dealing with park visitors.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Work areas are primarily outside of Museum facility and have light-to-moderate background noise in all weather conditions. Position involves working with potentially hazardous chemicals and cleaning agents.

*Qualifications Required:
QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
1. High school graduate or equivalent.
2. One year previous experience in the grounds keeping or custodial fields or equivalent work experience desired.
3. Good written and oral communication skills in which a strong command of the English language can be demonstrated.
4. Ability to maintain and operate necessary equipment.
5. Ability to gain knowledge of Museum policies and procedures as applicable to grounds keeping duties and knowledge of the protection of works of art.
6. Highly motivated and able to work independently or as part of a team.
7. Ability to interact with the public and with co-workers professionally and tactfully. Adhere to Museum policies and support management decisions in a positive, professional manner.
8. Ability to obtain or currently possess a valid Washington State driver’s license with a clean driving record. Must be insurable to drive a SAM vehicle when necessary.
9.Ability to successfully pass a background check.

SUMMARY
Performs semi-skilled to skilled horticultural tasks in assigned area.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:
Assist in the propagating, planting, cultivating, watering, and fertilizing of flowers, plants, shrubs, trees, and other plant materials.
Plant bulbs, annuals, perennials, ground cover, shrubs, and trees.
Under supervision, operate spray equipment to apply herbicides and pesticides to shrubs, trees, lawns, and planting areas.
Transplant and prune trees and shrubs.
Prepare, plant, and maintain planting beds; seeds lawn areas and cuts and transplants sod.
Operate motor vehicles to, between, and from assigned work locations.
Maintain required records; prepares necessary reports.
Perform other related duties of a comparable level/type as assigned.

Gardener - $DOE

To help with weeding and mowing and light garden maintenance at Medina Residence. Experience preferred, transportation required, 12 – 16 hours/week, pay negotiable based on experience. Landscape Build/Maintenance Crew - $DOE

Status: Full Time and Year round (32-40 hours per week)
Pay: Depending on experience and qualifications
Location: Based in Mill Creek/Bothell

Position Duties:
Build/Install – general construction laborer. Assist with construction of new and renovated landscapes. Tasks will vary from day to day; we build patios, pathways, arbors, decks, planting, drainage, LID techniques, waterfeatures, etc.

Maintenance crew:
Perform duties that will include weeding, pruning, mulching, running small machinery and general clean up of landscapes that we build.

Required Qualifications:
Must be reliable, possess the ability to take initiative, work alone or as a team. No previous experience required, but a willingness to learn a must. Must be able to lift 70 lbs and be able to work in all weather conditions. Horticultural (and organics) knowledge preferred, but not required. Must have a valid WSDL and clean driving record. And most importantly must have an excellent attitude!
