Position Summary
The internship with the Bellevue Botanical Garden is a temporary position and is offered as an educational opportunity to students in the fields of botany, horticulture or related fields. Interns work 16 hours per week. The intern works a regular schedule, to be set by mutual consent of the Garden Manager, Garden Supervisor and Intern, plus some holidays. While some of the intern’s time will be spent gaining horticultural knowledge working under the supervision of grounds staff, most of the intern’s time will be spent working on collections documentation and mapping with volunteers, grounds staff, and partner group leaders, under the supervision of the Garden Manager. The 2009 internship will focus on collections documentation in the newly-renovated NPA Border and the Waterwise Garden. The internship will last approximately 9 months. At the end of the internship the intern will have gained knowledge about the operation and management of a botanical garden, with special emphasis on collections management.

Work involves exposure to traffic hazards due to driving as well as physical ability to walk road rights-of-way, fields, shorelines etc.; Requires ability to bend and pull noxious weeds. Field work is performed outside in full range of weather conditions. Overtime is not a guarantee but may be required.

Requirements:
Ability to work independently, work tactfully and courteously with public and be reliable for attendance and completing assigned tasks accurately and efficiently. MUST HAVE a current Washington State Driver’s License or have requested and obtained an appropriate accommodation and a WSDA Public Pesticide Operator/Consultant License.

Athletic Field Technician - $21.317/hr

Under the supervision of the Landscape Lead performs maintenance on the athletic field complexes and grounds at the four major high schools. This includes all issues with stadium, turf field, track, storage facilities, press boxes, restrooms, concession stands, baseball and softball fields, tennis courts and grounds on the main campus.

Duties:
  • Performs all duties related to maintaining athletic facilities and assisting with high school grounds, including pressure washing in stadium and other areas as needed as well as minor bleacher repair and maintenance; blowing off and maintaining clean walkways around stadium.

Internship - Vibrant Plants - $9/hr

Vibrant Plants is looking for interns for spring of 2009. We are looking for green industry hopeful to fill 2-3 part time positions.

The tasks for the position(s) will include, but not limited to , greeting shack duties (mostly passing out our map & availability packet to incoming customer & verify reciepts), tagging plants and pulling/staging plants for displays.

This will be a hands-on position (regardless of weather) and some degree of physicality will be required (bending, squatting and light lifting). Ideally, the hours will be from 10am- 2pm 3 days a week but we'll be as flexible as possible given school/work schedules (i.e. 8am-12noon, 9am-1pm, 12:30pm-4:30pm etc.) This position will pay $9.00/hr.

We will start pooling applicants right away, and the positions will start as early Monday, February 16th and go thru Friday June 12th.
