Landscape Crew Person- $DOE

Living Earth Landscapes currently has an opening available for a Crew Person for our Landscape Maintenance team. To qualify for this position you must have a knowledge of and experience in all aspects of plant pruning, cultivation and identification.


Living Earth is an established and successful Eastside (Redmond) landscaping company. As the name suggests, we have an environmentally friendly focus and specialize in fine garden maintenance and installations. We do not offer lawn mowing services. We work in both Seattle and the Eastside and won the WALP Grand Award for residential landscape installation twice - in 2008 and 2009.

Position Description:
The Seattle Center is seeking qualified candidates for Intermittent Gardener in our Division of Technical Facilities Management. This position reports to the Landscape Supervisor and works with a team that is responsible for a beautiful 74 acre campus, with 17 acres of open space and landscaped areas of flower gardens and trees, welcoming 12 million visitors a year. The assignment is from August – October, 2010, Monday to Friday, 8 hours a day.


Job Responsibilities:
Perform skilled gardening and landscaping work in planting, cultivation, pruning and care of flowers, shrubs, trees, lawn and landscaped areas.
Fertilize, mow, aerate, maintain lawn areas and sprinkler/irrigation systems.
Apply pesticides. Spray trees and shrubs, direct the operation of spraying equipment and maintain records of pesticide application.
Identify symptoms and methods of control of plant diseases and insect pests. Make recommendations on and implement the type of landscape maintenance needed for a given site.
Operate equipment such as riding mower, aerator/seeder, small tractor, backpack blower, edger, chainsaw and irrigation systems.
Must work independently and expect to be held accountable for work performance.
Strong customer service, communication and teamwork skills needed for success working with diverse workforce and a multi-cultural public and clientele.
Operate Maxicom Irrigation System.

Qualifications:
Experience: Minimum of two years work experience in landscape construction or maintenance, or in the propagation and maintenance of flowers, plants, shrubs, and trees at a conservatory, greenhouse, or nursery (Combinations of education, training and experience will be evaluated on an individual basis for comparability). Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds on a regular basis, work outdoors in all types of weather. Experience in maintenance and repair of high quality sand-based turf.


Certification/License:
A Washington Public Pesticide Operator’s License with an Aquatics or Public Health endorsement. Current Washington Driver's License.
