This is a time limited position which will work 10 months in length from January through October 2008.

*Job Description:
The Community Fruit Tree Project Coordinator is responsible for coordinating the Community Fruit Tree Harvest – an effort to reduce food waste, build community, increase awareness about hunger, preserve the urban forest, and improve access to fresh fruit among low-income individuals. The Project Coordinator will coordinate all aspects of the Community Fruit Tree Harvest Project including recruiting volunteers and tree donors, procuring in-kind donations of harvesting materials, advertising, organizing and leading volunteer orientations and training, maintaining communication and relationships with tree donors, neighborhood team leaders, volunteers, food banks and meals programs. Directly supervise the work of individual volunteers and organize an end of the year celebration for volunteers; con duct program outreach and teach workshops; research opportunities for creating an advisory board, identify future funding options, measure outcomes, write quarterly reports and conduct an end of the season project evaluation with donors, recipients, and volunteers; and coordinate administrative functions for the project, maintain database, utilize mapping technology, and correspond with donors and volunteers as needed.

*Qualifications Required:
Requires one of the following:
a) Three years of demonstrated experience in IPM Horticulture OR a Bachelor’s degree in horticulture and one year of experience practicing IPM Horticulture OR any combination of education, experience and measurable performance which demonstrates the capability to perform the duties of this position;
b) One year demonstrated and successful experience coordinating volunteers, conducting community outreach, and developing educational materials and training workshops for adults; OR
c) Any combination of education, experience and measurable performance which demonstrates the capability to perform the duties of this position.

Also requires:
• Demonstrated experience working with individuals from diverse ethnic and social backgrounds.
• Ability to collect and manipulate data to evaluate and report on measurable outcomes.
• Excellent communication skills, both oral and written;
• Ability to work individually in a self-directed manner and as part of a team;
• Ability to maintain professional, courteous and positive relationships with participants, volunteers, and the general community;
• Excellent organizational skills, initiative and attention to detail;
• Access to reliable transportation, valid driver's license, vehicle insurance that meets Washington State’s minimum guidelines and the ability and willingness to travel throughout King County;
• Interest in and ability to work with people from a variety of racial, cultural and economic backgrounds, with various lifestyles, sexual orientations, and of all ages;
• Proficient knowledge of computer software (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, mapping programs);
• Ability and willingness to work evenings and weekends (about half the work hours) for the purposes of coordinating harvests, volunteer trainings, workshops and attending community meetings.
