Position Duties
Plan and supervise the maintenance of street trees by the SDOT tree crew; act in a support capacity for the crew. Inspect trees on City rights-of-way, select and monitor contractors who provide tree care services, prepare monthly reports. Investigate and respond to service requests from the public. Identify trees and plant materials, recognize plant diseases, pests, cultural and nutritional deficiencies, and recommend corrective treatments. Develop and manage project budget for acquisition and maintenance of trees and plantings. Order and inspect plant and tree materials. Maintain inventory of all trees and plants. Contact citizens and community groups to respond to inquiries and resolve complaints. Work in a multi-cultural work place and customer base with an emphasis on communication for cooperation, collaboration, inclusiveness, anti-racism and pluralism.

Required Qualifications
At least three years of experience in the care, planting, and maintenance of trees and plant materials, and the equivalent of a Bachelor's Degree in Horticulture, Landscape Architecture, Forestry, Natural Resources, Botany, or related field, with demonstrated experience in supervision or lead work.Required to work in all weather conditions and stand, bend and walk for extended periods. Occasional exposure to toxic chemicals and pesticides is required.WA State driver’s license. Submit a driver’s abstract on request. A background check may be required.

Desired Qualifications
ISA Certified Arborist; computer skills in GIS, tree inventory, MS Office applications. Experience in dealing with the public in a municipal setting. Two years supervisory experience in an Arboricultural or related field. WA State Pesticide Applicator’s License.
