Seasonal Laborer - City of Kirkland ( Job # 09-0001)

Summary
Perform general labor tasks and operate equipment as assigned for maintenance and/or development of the City's public works systems, parks, or public grounds. All assignments perform manual labor tasks using hand and power tools. Applicants will be considered for Parks and Public Works positions listed below.


Parks - Maintain park facilities and public grounds, prepare and groom ball fields, empty garbage, mow and trim grass, clean City’s swimming pool.
Public Works - Streets: Assist in the construction, maintenance, improvement and repair of city streets and right-of-way areas. Locate meters, paint fire hydrants, clean retention ponds and grout basins; Public Grounds: Maintain & landscape City facilities, litter pickup, mow and trim grass, edge and clear walkways, paint/stain City amenities, landscape installation and bed maintenance, assist with irrigation repair; Fleet: Assist shop technicians with repair and maintenance of City vehicles pick up and delivery of City vehicles, shop clean up; Sign Shop: Paint and clean sidewalks and curbs, medians, traffic circles; inventory signs, install signs, shop clean up.


Special Note
This is a continuous recruitment. Applications will be screened as openings occur and hiring will be staggered throughout the year. Only candidates whose skills most closely match position requirements will be contacted. Duration of employment will be 1040 hours or less within a 12 month period.


Hours of Work
40 hours/week for Parks Positions. Work shifts will vary and may include weekends. Coverage is seven days a week.
20 - 40 hours/week for Public Works Positions. Monday – Friday, work shifts vary.


Minimum Qualifications
Must be able to operate basic hand and power tools and equipment, drive a pickup, maintain a valid Washington State Drivers License, and function effectively as a team player. These positions require successful completion of a thorough background check as required by the Child/Adult Abuse Information Act.


Preferred Qualifications
Basic knowledge and/or experience in lawn/landscape maintenance is preferred for Parks and the Public Grounds Division. Basic automotive and auto parts knowledge is preferred for Fleet. Basic knowledge of paint spraying and inventory is preferred for the Sign Shop.

Working Conditions & Physical Activities
Must be able to work outdoors in inclements weather; lift and move objects weighing up to 50 pounds; climb into and out of trenches and climb ladders.
