THIS IS A FULL TIME SEASONAL POSITION

POSITION SUMMARY:
Naturalist or specialized knowledge in glaciology, geography, flora & fauna, topography, history, geology culture, marine biology, wildlife and current issues of the area traveled. Create and present public narration on deck, by sharing their knowledge in a friendly and easily understood manner. Cultivate and persuade the passengers to spend as much time on deck exploring and experiencing the natural surroundings. Educate guests on the eco-system and environment in a non-condescending manner. Share your passion of science and nature with passengers. Supports the EL administratively by printing and distributing Adventure Updates and coordinating the ShoreEx program and other tasks as assigned.

MAJOR AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY INCLUDE:
Develop and deliver educational presentations dealing with environmental science, history and relevant topics to the itinerary as assigned by the EL. · The cultivation of the guest experience focused on the observation of the surrounding geology, flora and fauna by encouraging the guest to be on deck during narration. Interactive tools such as maps, charts, guidebooks and spotting scopes should be used to involve the guests. Work on deck while the ship is cruising during daylight hours locating marine and wildlife sightings that may go unnoticed, even when the passengers are focused on being inside and protected from inclement weather. Responsible for assembling the content of the "Welcome Aboard" packet as assigned by the EL. Assists the EL as directed.

Qualifications Required:
Minimum education requires specialized or technical knowledge requiring formal training or exposure to the areas described above in the Position Summary. BS or higher degree dealing with natural resources, marine biology, environmental education or policy, botany, forestry, environmental geography, anthropology, history or other related field of study preferred or equivalent experience. Prior cruise industry experience strongly preferred. Communication and writing skills require the ability to provide explanation of very complex or technical matters to people with little or no background in the area under discussion. Overall knowledge and skills requires the full working knowledge of a recognized discipline that includes a basic understanding of the principles and theory; or a general understanding and knowledge of more than one related discipline.
