Botanic Garden Info Desk/Reception - $12.51/hr

The UW Botanic Garden seeks a weekend information desk receptionst at the Washington Park Arboretum Graham Visitor Center to start September 27.

Hours are 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays (commitment of 3 weekends per month). This is the first point of contact for the general public and facility renters.

Responsibilities include greeting the public, responding to inquiries regarding the Arboretum and rentals, answering and directing phone calls, assisting with events scheduled during the day on weekends, occasionally setting up a room for an event (including A/V equipment) and other duties as assigned. You must be comfortable greeting people, assertive, organized, able to multi-task and work well both independently and as a team member. Must have experience with reception work and working with a diverse audience, excellent written and verbal communication skills, as well as computer and internet use. General knowledge of the Arboretum, Seattle area and plants is necessary.

This is an hourly position paying $12.51/hour.

Acting under the direction of the General Manager, the Grounds and Facilities Administrator is responsible for over sight of a variety of ground maintenance activities including landscape, irrigation, general property repairs and amenities. Grounds and Facilities Administrator required to prioritize work, and report status of projects to the General Manager, boards and member committees.

• Grounds and Facilities Administrator shall be experienced in landscape maintenance and shall have adequate knowledge of ornamental horticulture and integrated pest management (IPM) practices.
• Manage and coordinate projects within the community
• Assist General Manager with recommendations and justifications for annual budget planning, preparation and implementation. Monitor and control budget expenditures.
• Monitor all aspects of community pond system and coordinate required inspections with King County.
• Oversight of irrigation operation, inspection, and repairs, including Maxicom System.
• Maintain courteous communication with residents, business partners, applicants, vendors, King County, Developer/construction staff, CDC Management, Blue Star Resort operator and staff
• Able to frequently and safely lift heavy objects up to fifty pounds.

Internship - Research Associate

IPMopedia seeking Research Associates for
Fall 2008 Internships

IPMopedia, in partnership with the Washington Toxics Coalition and Toxipedia.org, is a large resource website that provides a wide variety of up to date information on IPM practices, sustainable landscape and garden design, proper plant choices, and other topics related to organic/green gardening to gardening professionals and the public.

Position Responsibilities
In the Fall of 2008 IPMopedia interns will work as part of a team to research and write content for several sections of our website including the pest fact sheet database, the landscaping and gardening guides, as well as the indoor pest control guide. Future tasks include website development and production, outreach, and marketing when the site is launched in October 2008.

Qualifications
Candidates should have the following skills:

-Ability to work independently as well as part of a team

-Good time management skills and ability to meet deadlines
