Position Summary
The internship with the Bellevue Botanical Garden is a temporary position and is offered as an educational opportunity to students in the fields of botany, horticulture or related fields. Interns work 20 hours per week. The intern works Saturday and Sunday 8-4:30 and all holidays. There is a ½ day during the week to be set by mutual consent of the Garden Manager, Garden Supervisor and Intern. One half of the intern’s time will be spent gaining horticultural knowledge working under the supervision of the Operations Supervisor. The other half of the intern’s time will be spent working with curator and administrative elements of a botanical garden under the supervision of the Garden Manager. The intern will select a project from a list. The project will be conducted throughout the course of the internship with a report expected at the end. The internship will last approximately 9 months. At the end of the internship the intern will have gained knowledge about the operation and management of a botanical garden.

Primary Responsibilities

• Collections mapping identifying what plant is where in garden

• Public garden grounds maintenance - weeding, pruning, raking, deadheading, backpack blowing, sweeping, planting

• Plant records - record information about plants

• Volunteer management - work with volunteer projects

• Public relations & special events - set-up and take down, answer questions, presentations, assist wherever needed

Qualifications

• Enrolled in an accredited two-or four-year college or university with a focus in horticulture, recreation, or other related field(s).

• Experience in horticulture, natural history, recreation programming or a related area.

• Or any equivalent combination of education, experience, and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

• Experience using the PC, including word processing, spreadsheets.

• Knowledge of ArcGIS preferred

• Grounds maintenance experience preferred.

• Database experience preferred.

• Blood Born Pathogens and first aid certification may be required-employer will provide if needed.

• During special situations (i.e. specific internship programs through school) or during school breaks, can be scheduled to work more than 20 hours, up to full time, if appropriate.

• Must be terminated as a student intern when no longer associated with an education program.

• At-will for the duration of the student intern status.

Environmental Education Instructors-$200/wk+ plus housing, meals and...

Located in beautiful western Washington State, YMCA Camp Colman is a resident camp and conference center with dense evergreen forest, over a mile of beach on Puget Sound and great views of the Olympic Mountains. Join an enthusiastic and creative outdoor environmental education team in learning how to instruct and facilitate school and weekend groups.

Responsibilities: Teach environmental education with an emphasis on forest and marine classes; facilitate team-building activities on challenge courses and climbing wall; instruct in outdoor skills such as orienteering and canoeing; lead games, campfires and other evening programs; assist with hosting duties for youth and adult groups, including orientations, meal announcements, and supervision of recreation areas; provide administrative and camp support as needed to ensure efficient running of program and camp.

Qualifications: Experience with and enthusiasm for working with children; BA/BS in the natural sciences or similar degree; camp and/or teaching experience; positive, committed, service oriented attitude; developed communication and presentation skills; ability to have fun in a fantastic outdoor setting; current CPR/First Aid and Lifeguarding certifications preferred.

Garden Manager: Ground has been broken, the seeds have been planted, the compost spread, and the plants nurtured. The Garden manager will integrate organic gardening and soil science into the OEE curriculum and maintain the garden throughout the season, with assistance of fellow OEE staff. Experience in gardening with kids.

Marine Systems Specialist: Our marine touch tank and four 60-gallon aquariums provide homes for marine invertebrates. Marine Systems Specialist will create appropriate habitats for a variety of species native to the Case Inlet, track feeding and behavior of animals, maintain pipes and water pump with assistance of facilities director, and contribute to the Marine Invertebrates curriculum. Experience in Marine Biology preferred.

Challenge Education Coordinator: Opportunities to maintain and grow our low and high ropes courses are in the future. In addition to maintenance of current courses, Challenge Ed. Coordinator will research and implement new physical elements and conceptual curriculum, providing training to the staff and outreach to new potential Challenge Education clients. Prior Experiential Education work preferred.

The Wholesale Supervisor is responsible for building, growing and managing the operations of the wholesale plant department, and for developing and maintaining highly satisfactory customer relations. This position combines the key strengths of excellent business acumen, a solid knowledge of Northwest plants, and strong customer service skills. The Wholesale Supervisor reports to the General Manager of Production. Requirements include a working knowledge of wholesale functions, including sales, account management and inventory management; the ability to work well in a team environment with excellent interpersonal skills and highly effectively communicate skills, both verbally and in writing.
Status: Regular Full-Time, Monday through Friday. Some weekend hours may be required.
