Duties:Under the direction of the Parks Director, this position assists with the acquisition, design and development of capital improvement projects, including park properties and facilities. Duties include, but are not limited to: reviewing land use applications and site plans for compliance with Parks Open Space Plan; evaluating plans, policies, projects, and developments suggesting policy and procedural changes; helping formulate and procure site development design concepts; negotiating, preparing, and administrating consultant contracts; preparing and managing public project budgets; researching , applying for and administering land acquisition and park development grants; assisting in development and updating of the Parks Open Space Plan and individual park master plans; collecting and analyzing data and preparing multi-media presentations; undertaking and coordinating public involvement; staffing various boards and commissions; and, performing other duties as assigned.

Qualifications: Knowledge of: principles and practices of Park and municipal land use and planning; development review methods and procedures; architectural design and site planning; applicable federal, state, and local laws, regulations, codes, ordinances, and practices; community issues and concerns; work program design and scheduling techniques; community involvement methods; issues resolution and conflict management; computer aided design and GIS.

Ability to: organize and conduct public meetings; review plans and proposals for conformance to applicable codes; conduct research; perform technical, qualitative and quantitative analysis; plan and organize work to meet both short and long-range deadlines; communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing; establish and maintain effective working relationships with citizens, public officials, City staff, the development community and design professionals; work independently and as part of a team; keep and maintain accurate records.Education and

Experience: Any combination equivalent to: Bachelor's degree in urban planning, landscape architecture, park planning or closely related field AND five (5) years planning with two (2) years direct park planning experience. Master's degree preferred. Licenses/Requirements: Valid Washington State driver's license by date of hire, and driving record that meets city standards. Fulfillment of bargaining unit agreement membership is required within 30 days of hire.

Working Conditions: Work is primarily in an office environment, requires driving to meetings and making site visits. Attendance at meeting may require working evening hours
