Grounds & Nursery Specialist 2 - $DOE

JOB SUMMARY: 

The Grounds & Nursery Specialist 2 performs skilled gardening work in the maintenance of Bellevue College main campus and satellite campus grounds, landscapes, pathways and parking lots.  Under supervision, the Grounds 2 personnel also performs tasks requiring knowledge of cultivation and maintenance of lawns, trees and ornamental plants, such as pruning, transplanting plant material and applying chemicals.   



ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: 

  • Maintain lawns and athletic field; aerating, seeding, fertilizing, mowing, edging.
  • Operate backpack blower.
  • Lift/ push/ pull 50lbs.
  • Use of ladders.
  • Litter control.
  • Pressure washing.
  • Clean storm drains.
  • Fountain maintenance.
  • Irrigation troubleshooting and repair.
  • Clean and service outdoor garbage cans and designated smoking shelters. 
  • Apply pesticides.
  • Pruning.
  • Raking and removal of leaves.
  • Manual weeding.
  • Manual application and spreading of mulch.
  • Safe operation and on-going maintenance of motorized equipment and tools (walk behind commercial lawn mowers, riding mowers, front loading tractor, chainsaws, gas operator hedgers, trimmers and edgers, etc.). 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Physical ability to do required work; lift a minimum of 50lbs.
  • One year experience or training involving grounds maintenance, plant care or equivalent education/experience. 

SPECIFIC POSITION REQUIREMENT: 

(Applicants MUST possess the following in order to be considered for the position). 

  • Valid motor vehicle operator’s license or ability to obtain one upon employment.
  • Possess Washington State Department of Agriculture certification for pesticide applications or ability to obtain license within 1 year of employment.
  • Willingness to work outside in ALL weather conditions.
