PRIMARY DUTIES: Reporting to the Landscape Supervisor, work with a team of gardeners in close proximity to the public, scheduling and performing work and tasks around events that are held indoors and outdoors across a 74-acre campus. This gardening team participates in planting, transplanting, weeding, pruning and care of seasonal plants, perennials, shrubs, and trees and maintains approximately 10 acres of intensely used, high quality sand-based turf. Work independently and, from time to time, lead small crews of intermittent and/or regular laborers. Evaluate conditions and situations in the field and take appropriate action without direct supervision on a regular basis. Participate in design, planning and installation of campus landscapes. Daily and seasonal operations require demonstrated knowledge of standard methods, materials, procedures, tools and equipment associated with landscaping and gardening. Gardeners operate and perform minor maintenance on Maxicom, a computerized automated, centrally controlled irrigation system. Use power equipment including riding mower, aerator/seeder, small tractor, pickup, backpack blower, edger and chainsaw. Operate forklift and manlift in support of gardening operations.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Two years experience as a journey level landscaper or gardener. A Washington Public Pesticide Operator’s License with an Aquatics or Public Health endorsement must be acquired within one year of hire. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds on a regular basis. Must be willing and able to work outside in all kinds of weather. Must be able to stand, walk or bend for extended periods of time. Must have the ability to work effectively and safely in close proximity to the public. Must be at least 18 years old, and have a valid Driver's License at time of application. The successful candidate must provide a complete driver’s abstract.

General familiarity with computers for communication and time keeping purposes and knowledge of Maxicom Central Control irrigation systems are highly desirable.

Landscape Construction, Small company with a 25 year history in the area. We install new landscapes and Re-hab existing landscapes. We install irrigation, lighting, rockeries, patios, full planting and creative design. We are looking for someone that is strong, intelligent, has a good sense of humor, and is enjoyable to work with. We hire more on personality and potential than experience in the field. We train on the job. This is a small firm and we all get our hands dirty. This is a very stable company and we do one project at a time. We landscape in the kirkland, bellevue, and seattle areas. We are based out of Kirkland but meet at jobsites.

You must have your own transportation to and from the jobsite. This means that you have a car or a motorcycle. Sorry no bus passes, mopeds, or bicycles. You are never asked to use your car for work, just to get to and from work. You must be a non-smoker, and in good physical condition. Job Summary
The City of Bellevue, WA is currently accepting on-line applications for a regular, full-time position as a Street Tree Program Forester within the City's Parks & Community Services Department, Natural Resources Division.
This position is oversees and coordinates primary site and street tree management functions and project management for numerous streetscape and other park sites. This work is primarily accomplished through the use of contract maintenance and consultant services.

Essential Functions of the Job
Coordinates street tree and park landscape maintenance and project site management functions. Including planning, project development, site evaluation, troubleshooting, renovation, and maintenance functions.
Provides input into division and section program development, documentation, marketing, and grant development and administration.
Develops and administers maintenance, landscape development, and professional services contracts and associated forms and procedures.
Prepares/executes contracts and specification documents for street trees and formal landscapes, prepares and solicits bids and proposals using proper City procedures and permitting in compliance of City, State, and Federal requirements. Monitors section operating and project budgets.
Oversees the computerized physical assets inventory collection and analysis, irrigation and water use schedules. Establishes and maintains construction specifications and a city code library.
Monitors and facilitates the progress of contracted work through contract review, bid process, and all phases of contract completion. Inspects sites serviced by contractors and monitors contractor payments.
Performs a variety of technical and professional work in project plan review and construction inspection. Provides technical assistance to multiple departments related to arboriculture, horticulture, and landscape maintenance.
Performs professional level administrative services and special projects, including responding to and resolving citizen requests, researching, and writing documents for the Natural Resource Division.
May oversee the work of technical and clerical employees engaged in supporting departmental administrative functions and train individuals associated with projects.

Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in horticulture, urban forestry, environmental science, or natural resource preferred or combination of education and experience.
Five years or more years of professional experience in parks, streetscape, or urban forestry contract/project management, including design, permitting, preparation of contractual documents and project supervision.
The equivalent combination of education, training, certification, and experience will be taken into consideration when determining whether a candidate possesses the necessary skills for the position.
Experience in long range planning and site planning, project management.
Experience in administering contracts with consultants and contractors.
Working knowledge of laws, regulations and ordinances directly related to project planning and construction work.
Ability to follow professional standards in the design and implementation of projects, to develop scope of work, prepare cost estimates and to write contract language.
Ability to interpret architectural and engineering plans and specifications.
Ability to inspect work in progress, identify deficiencies and gain cooperation with consultants and contractors to complete work.
Proficiency in use of PC (preferably using Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel and/or Access). Working knowledge of GIS systems and software.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including ability to communicate complex technical information.
Ability to develop and deliver public presentations.
A demonstrated working knowledge of arboricultural and horticultural best management practices.
Preferred possession of certification from the International Society of Arboriculture or similar professional organization. Washington State Pesticide Operators License or ability to obtain within 6 months of employment.
