Gardener Positions (Temp.) - $12.82-18.17/hr

Facilities Services is the large and diverse organization that operates and maintains the Seattle campus facilities, grounds, utility distribution, transportation, waste management and environmental sustainability programs, and provides engineering direction for campus construction. Facilities Services has intermittent openings in a variety of locations for Temporary Gardeners. These individuals work under general supervision, performing skilled gardening work in the maintenance of grounds, landscapes, nurseries, and/or greenhouses.

Duties may include:
Preparing soil for planting;

Planting, transplanting, trimming, and watering plants, trees, flowers and shrubs;

Applying pesticides and herbicides to flowers and shrubs;

Seeding, mowing, irrigating, fertilizing and maintaining lawns;

Using a variety of manual tools and equipment, such as rakes, pruning shears, hand edger’s, loppers, shovels, wheelbarrows and pesticide sprayers;

Operating power and motorized equipment such as weed trimmers, chain saws, backpack blowers, rototillers, light tractors, front-end loaders, small trucks, lawn mowers, sweepers, aerators, sod cutters and snow blowers;

Cleaning, servicing and making repairs to tools and equipment;

Assisting in installation and repair of lawn sprinkler system components;

Assisting in moving materials and supplies;

Performing related duties as required.


Requirements:
Physical ability to do required work AND one year of experience or training involving grounds maintenance, plant care, cultivation and landscape installation OR equivalent education/experience.
