Landscape Crew Lead- $11-16/hr

Our company is looking for 1-2 more great people to join our landscape crews. We work mostly in the West Seattle/Greater Seattle areas. Our focus is on high-end residential installation and maintenance. We work with a designer installing stone/hardscapes, fences & decks, irrigation, lighiting, water features, and all other aspects of landscaping. We build awesome gardens, and the work is very rewarding.

Pay is $11-$16/hr. depending on experience and qualification. We have full-time, year-round work, medical/dental, 401k, and company events (paintball, go-kart, fishing, etc.) We have great people who love to work, learn more about the trade skills, and have fun. Garden Manager - $DOE

International District Garden Manager

InterIm Community Development Association (ICDA) seeks a talented, motivated individual to manage the Danny Woo International District (ID) Community Garden. The garden provides opportunities to the neighborhood¡¦s low-income seniors to stay active and social by gardening together. Built in 1975 by volunteers, the 1.5 acres comprise half of the ID's open green space containing nearly 100 garden plots, dozens of fruit trees and ornamental gardens.

This individual will coordinate garden utilization and needed improvements at the 20+ plot community garden at our Highland Gardens development.

Responsibilities :
-- Maintain the garden's physical appearance, landscaping, structures, plumbing and electrical systems through the coordination and recruitment of volunteers and work with gardeners and through other partnerships.
--Plan and manage garden capital improvements such as construction or replacement of retaining walls, installation of pathways or irrigation, wood construction or other landscape construction.
--Raise funds for garden projects by preparing grant applications and maintaining and expanding a donor base and Friends of Danny Woo garden. Create and manage garden and project budgets. Get community and gardeners' input into project ideas.
--Recruit and coordinate all volunteer efforts to improve and maintain the garden. Procure materials necessary for various tasks to be accomplished.
--Address and advocate for improved public safety in the garden
--Coordinate registration of individuals to garden plots, maintain a wait list of interested gardeners, conduct outreach to the community to educate residents about opportunities in the garden.
--Coordinate community events such as the annual Pig Roast, cider press, and foster positive public exposure for the garden.
--Prepare regular mailings and newsletters to update donors and community.

Skills/Qualifications Required:
--Bilingual Chinese speaking, and other Asian languages a plus --Knowledge of organic gardening practices, landscape maintenance, and fruit tree pruning
--Hands on experience and skill in some of the following: carpentry, landscape irrigation, plumbing, landscape installation and maintenance, masonry, and other landscape/construction skills.
--Excellent written, verbal, and non-verbal communication skills. Must be able to develop good relationships with all gardeners including non-English speaking gardeners; lead group volunteer efforts, garden tours, community meetings; coordinate educational workshops.
--Sensitivity to working in a diverse cultural community and with low-income populations.
--Good organizational skills and resourcefulness in securing creative and new sources of financial support, and partnerships in the community.
--Ability to manage garden project budgets.
--Ability to work independently and work outside year-round.

DUTIES:
Under the direction of the Park Operations Supervisor or Park Operations Lead, this position performs skilled manual work and heavy equipment operation in the construction, maintenance, and repair of City parks, sport fields and buildings. Representative duties are as follows:

Ø Maintain City parks, landscapes and sport fields; mow, edge, and apply pesticides and fertilizer to landscaped areas; repair and maintain irrigation systems; plant and maintain flower beds; rake leaves, prune and trim trees, remove brush and trash and repair fences as needed.

Ø Repair and maintain City buildings, facilities, and structures; assist with general building repair performing a variety of duties involving the building trades, including carpentry, plumbing, masonry, minor electrical, and painting.

Ø Perform general building maintenance such as sweeping, mopping, and vacuuming floors; clean restrooms, change light bulbs and remove trash.

Ø Remove garbage from the Community Center and other City property.

Ø Operate vehicles and heavy equipment to perform parks and building construction and maintenance duties; operate a variety of landscaping and construction tools and equipment, such as a jackhammer, mower, edger, chain saw and chipper.

Ø Responding to emergency call-out situations as necessary.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
Ø Graduation from high school or equivalent.
Ø Two (2) years grounds maintenance, repair and construction experience required.
Ø A combination of experience and training that provides the candidate with the knowledge and skills to perform the job will be considered.

LICENSES & OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Ø Valid WA State Class A driver's license or ability to obtain within six (6) months of hire, a three year driving record abstract must be submitted prior to hire.

Position Duties:
Build/Install – general construction laborer. Assist with construction of new and renovated landscapes. Tasks will vary from day to day; we build patios, pathways, arbors, decks, planting, drainage, waterfeatures, etc.

Maintenance crew: Perform duties that will include weeding, pruning, mulching, running small machinery and general clean up of landscapes.

After initial training, I am looking for someone willing to take on additional responsibilities according to their talents (i.e administrative/bookkeeping, warehouse organization, plant purchasing, safety manager, installation manager, service supervisor, sales and or marketing, pest control manager)
If you choose to work 30 hours, 24 of those will be doing direct plant care and installation. The remaining 6-8 hours (at least at first) will consist of various tasks including but not limited to creating a safety plan, preparing proposals, floral prep or design, inventory, general administrative work.

Qualifications Required:
Knowledge of or the capacity to learn the names and care of our most commonly used plants within the training period.
Must also learn additional plant names and new skills on an ongoing basis.
Must obtain commercial pest applicator’s license within one year and one month of hire date. (This does not mean we use pesticides but the license and knowledge behind it are necessary)
Valid WSDL and good driving record.
Able to work unsupervised
Able to provide friendly, efficient customer service

Horticulture Technician-$DOE

Initial Tropical Plants is seeking an outgoing, organized, and detail oriented individual to maintain beautiful foliage and colorful containers in offices, hotels, and retail sites. Customer service and horticultural experience is a plus, although we do offer an on-the-job training program if you are new to the industry. We provide transportation to your accounts from our facility.

Due to insurance requirements you must have a valid Washington state drivers license, a clean driving record, and be 21 years of age or older. ITP is a drug-free work environment.

This job involves regular lifting of approximately 40 pounds (two 20 lb water buckets) and lots of walking.
