Crew Person - $12/hr

Walt's Organic Fertilizer Company is looking for good help to join our crew.

Primary responsibility will be year-round organic lawn and garden maintenance as well as landscape installation. So you will need to be up to the physical and mental demands of heavy lifting, monotonous weeding, unsavory odors, digging, and interacting with customers.
Secondary responsibilities include light manufacturing (bagging soil conditioners and organic fertilizers) and assisting with retail sales at our shop.

Professional horticultural experience required.
Desire for career in gardening desired.
Excellent driving record and valid WA State drivers license a must.
Retail sales experience a plus.
Safety-conscious only need apply.
Good communication skills necessary.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Description:
The person in this position is responsible for the upkeep of the grounds and gardens. This is seasonal work from August to October, weather dependent.
Reports to: Program Director
Pay: $12 per hour, part time, seasonal, no benefits

Duties:
Keep grounds clean, safe and accessible. This includes removing fallen limbs or debris that may impede client accessibility to the gardens.
Keep garden beds in working order.
Keep gardens weeded and watered as necessary.
Mowing and weed eating grounds.
Create new gardens that will enhance the appeal of the facility.
Maintain irrigation system.
Assist with planting and harvesting as requested by program director.
General maintenance in and around facility to keep building in good working order.
Assist with client based projects as requested by program director.
Include clients in outdoor projects when appropriate and provide assistance when necessary.

Qualifications:

Knowledge vegetable and herb gardening from indoor seed starting to final harvest.
Knowledge of landscape gardening.
Knowledge of horticultural therapy a plus.
Experience and/or interest in working with adults with disabilities required.

Seasonal Color Coordinator - $DOE

The Seasonal Color Coordinator oversees all aspects of the Department, supervising Crew Members who install and maintain seasonal flower displays throughout job sites in the Puget Sound region. Client contact, sales, materials procurement, inventory control, quality assurance responsibilities are within the job duties of this position.

The job requires the successful candidate to possess excellent communication skills, a team building mentality and a desire to provide clientele with an attractive, cost effective product and service. Service orientation is a must as well as a strong base of horticulture and plant identification skills. Quality assurance is the driver throughout the Department and is a requisite function for all staff involved in assisting the Coordinator.

Job Requirements:
WSDL & acceptable driving record
Commercial Pesticide License or ability to acquire within 60 days of hire
Certificate or Degree in Horticulture Studies
Strong knowledge of annuals, perennials, ornamentals used in the Northwest landscape
Experience in training, mentoring and leading a team
Sales and negotiation acumen
Excellent computer skills; WORD/Excel/Outlook

Job Description:
Monthly garden maintenance tasks, working with the owner or on your own: raking, digging, planting, transplanting, light pruning, thinning or dividing perennials, cleanup, and filling the yard waste container. Occasional tasks include refreshing the wood chip paths, spreading compost, or moving a bunch of dirt from over here to over there.

Qualifications Required:
Experience with, or an intuitive feel for, all aspects of making plants grow, especially planting, water and sun requirements, and soil ammendments. Able to work on your own with a minimum of supervision or instruction. Able to put up with the hard work and crummy weather for the pleasure of seeing the plants you are caring for flourish.
Qualifications Preferred:
Knowledge of shade gardeing and native plants. Experience with or interest in drip irrigation.
