Lake Washington Technical College changed its name this summer to Lake Washington Institute of Technology.

This change will be affecting the horticulture programs online presence. The Horticulture Department now has a new website, blog, job board and Facebook page. These changes were done to keep in line with the new college name as well as to streamline operations. The website, blog and job board are now all in one convenient site. Easy for the user and easier for us to maintain.

We need a project manager, or a guy that wants to learn, and turn into a project manager.
$12-$20/hour starting (Depending on what you can do)

• You have to be Honest.

Grounds & Nursery Specialist 2 - $DOE

JOB SUMMARY: 

The Grounds & Nursery Specialist 2 performs skilled gardening work in the maintenance of Bellevue College main campus and satellite campus grounds, landscapes, pathways and parking lots.  Under supervision, the Grounds 2 personnel also performs tasks requiring knowledge of cultivation and maintenance of lawns, trees and ornamental plants, such as pruning, transplanting plant material and applying chemicals.   

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: 

• Maintain lawns and athletic field; aerating, seeding, fertilizing, mowing, edging.
• Operate backpack blower.
• Lift/ push/ pull 50lbs.
• Use of ladders.
• Litter control.
• Pressure washing.
• Clean storm drains.
• Fountain maintenance.
• Irrigation troubleshooting and repair.
• Clean and service outdoor garbage cans and designated smoking shelters. 
• Apply pesticides.
• Pruning.
• Raking and removal of leaves.
• Manual weeding.
• Manual application and spreading of mulch.
• Safe operation and on-going maintenance of motorized equipment and tools (walk behind commercial lawn mowers, riding mowers, front loading tractor, chainsaws, gas operator hedgers, trimmers and edgers, etc.). 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• Physical ability to do required work; lift a minimum of 50lbs.
• One year experience or training involving grounds maintenance, plant care or equivalent education/experience. 

SPECIFIC POSITION REQUIREMENT:

Willows Lodge Intern

Willows Lodge Quarterly Intern Position

Willows Lodge, an 84 room boutique hotel in Woodinville, WA, is currently accepting applications for its quarterly internship position.

Techical Assistant II - $15-17/hr

TITLE: Technical Assistant II, Nutrition Education -- WSU Square Foot Nutrition Project

APPOINTMENT STATUS: Temporary, 24-28 hours per week, 24 weeks assigned during the school year 2011-2012

LOCATION: Washington State University Pierce County Extension, 3602 Pacific Avenue, Suite B, Tacoma, WA 98418-5739

DESCRIPTION OF THE PROJECT:
The main goal of the Square Foot Nutrition Project (SFNP) is to improve nutritional practices of students in grades 1-5 through vegetable gardening, cooking and experiential nutrition education activities. The Nutrition Educator will work in Title I schools in Pierce County (50% or more of the students qualify for free or reduced lunch) teaching nutrition using a set curriculum and a variety of assigned teaching methods. The Nutrition Educator will teach twelve 1-hour classes per week for 24 assigned weeks from October to June. Monthly educator trainings take place at the WSU Pierce County Extension office for one to three hours depending upon schedule needs.

RESPONSIBLE TO: Square Foot Nutrition Project Coordinator and Pierce County Nutrition Faculty.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
May include any or all of the following:

• Review and prepare pre-written lesson plans in provided curriculum
• Present garden enhanced nutrition lessons to youth in Pierce County elementary schools
• Purchase materials and supplies for project in consultation with Project Coordinator following established university procedures
• Maintain records; administer evaluations and complete reports that monitor progress of teacher and student project participants.
• Use only research-based USDA and WSU-supported nutrition and gardening information.
• Complete other duties to support SFNP as required for effective program delivery

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum:
• Bachelor's degree in nutrition and/or horticulture or any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirements on a year-for-year basis
• Washington State driver's license, car with required auto insurance, home telephone and completion of Washington State Patrol background check

Desired:
• Documented experience or education working with youth in schools
• Demonstrated ability to deliver educational programs
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a team member is required
• Demonstrated ability to work with culturally and economically diverse populations
• Experience working with school teachers
• Experience working with school gardens
• Must lift and transport materials, food items and audio-visual equipment up to 30 pounds

Wages and Application Process:
Salary $15-$17/hr DOE
Mileage within school districts is reimbursed round trip from the Extension Office to scheduled schools

Seasonal Color Lead - $DOE

Seasonal color lead/Holiday production and installation lead.... position available at Plantscapes, located just off Rainier and Dearborn, in Seattle.

The positions requires a minimum of 5 years in the landscape/horticultural industry, preferably in seasonal color installation.

Nine months out of the year the duties entail planning seasonal color layouts, ordering weekly annuals during the installation periods and directing 2-5 installation/maintenance crews. Three months out of the year this position is responsible for the supervision of production and installation of our interior Holiday program.

This is full time, with benefits. Driver's license and computer skills necessary. Salary is DOE.
